Tune agent effort and speed (and read the cost)
Every agent runs at an effort level and a speed, and together they decide how much each run costs in credits. Tuning them lets you spend more on the agents that handle hard, open-ended work and less on the ones that follow tight instructions. You can set effort and speed on a single agent when you create or edit it, or change them across many agents at once. For background on what these settings mean and how credits are spent, see Effort and speed and Credits.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You need an editable session. The select-and-edit controls on the agent lists are hidden for read-only sessions, so a read-only user cannot open the bulk change panel.
The settings apply to agents themselves, so this is about how your agents are configured, not how a one-off run behaves. Changing effort and speed affects future runs of those agents.
You can change effort and speed for one agent or for many at once.
For a single agent
Section titled “For a single agent”- Open an agent list, for example Account Research Agents, and either create a new agent or open an existing one to edit it.
- In the form, find the Effort and Speed fields.
- Pick an effort level and a speed (covered below), then save the agent.
For several agents at once
Section titled “For several agents at once”- Open an agent list, for example Account Research Agents.
- Select the agents you want to change using the checkboxes on the left of each row.
- In the action bar that appears for the selected rows, choose Change effort & speed.
- A panel opens, headed Change effort & speed for selected … Agents, with the count of selected agents shown at the bottom (for example 3 agents selected).
- Choose an Effort level and a Speed. The panel starts at Medium effort and Standard speed.
- Choose Update to apply the settings to every selected agent, or Close to cancel without changing anything.
Effort
Section titled “Effort”Effort controls how much reasoning the agent puts into each run. There are three levels, each with its own credit cost:
- Low - 0.5 credit per run. Follows your steps exactly. Best when your instructions cover the task.
- Medium - 1 credit per run. Follows your steps and expands them with extra reasoning when needed. Best when the agent has to think through details your instructions do not spell out.
- High - 1.5 credits per run. Handles complex, ambiguous tasks that need deep reasoning and judgment.
Speed controls how fast the run is processed, and it multiplies the cost:
- Standard - 1x. Default processing speed.
- Fast - 2x. Faster processing speed.
Reading the cost
Section titled “Reading the cost”The panel shows a live Cost per run in credits, updating as you change either field, alongside the effort and speed you have picked. The cost is the effort credit value multiplied by the speed multiplier. So Medium effort at Standard speed is 1 credit, and High effort at Fast speed is 3 credits per run.
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”Choosing Update saves the new effort and speed onto the selected agents and closes the panel; the selection clears. The change takes effect on the next time those agents run. The cost shown in the panel is what each future run of an agent will draw from your credit balance at the chosen settings. To see runs consume credits, start a run from a record and watch the result land on the matching tab, or check progress in the task feed. See Run a Qualification agent, Run a Research agent, and Monitor the task feed.
