Create agents from the Agents section
The Agents section is where you build the standing agents your team reuses: the questions that qualify and research accounts and contacts, the templates that draft account plans, and the plays that write outbound messaging. This page walks through adding a new agent in each section, from naming and instructions through effort, speed, scope, and play sequences.
Each agent type lives on its own list under Agents, grouped in the side panel as Automated lead and signal research (Account Qualification Agents, Account Research Agents, Contact Research Agents) and Ultra personalized customer interactions (Account Plan Agents, Play Agents). To learn what each agent does before you build one, see Agents.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Creating agents needs an editing role. On every list the Add new button is greyed out for read-only members. See Roles and access.
- For qualification and research agents, set up your ecosystems and verticals first if you want to scope an agent to them or store per-vertical answers. See Verticals.
- For contact research agents you assign to persona cards, and for play agents that target personas, have your persona cards in place. See Personas.
Open a list and start a new agent
Section titled “Open a list and start a new agent”- Open Agents in the left navigation, then pick the list you want from the side panel: Account Qualification Agents, Account Research Agents, Contact Research Agents, Account Plan Agents, or Play Agents.
- Select Add new at the top right. A menu opens with the ways to start:
- Start from scratch opens an empty create form.
- Use template opens the templates browser, where you can adopt a ready-made agent. For account plan and play agents you select one or more templates and choose Create selected to copy them into your list; for qualification and research agents you open a single template, which fills the create form for you to adjust. Some play templates are credited to a named expert, shown with their details.
- Create with AI (Play Agents only) drafts the play’s instructions for you from a short brief.
- You can also reuse an existing agent: on a list row, select the copy icon to Duplicate it. The create form opens pre-filled with that agent’s settings so you can adjust and save a new copy.
Configure a qualification or research agent
Section titled “Configure a qualification or research agent”The three research and qualification lists share the same core fields. Choose Start from scratch, then fill in:
- Name the agent.
- Add Instructions. This is the question or directive the agent works to, written in plain language. For Account Qualification and Account Research agents, a Generate with AI section above this field can draft the instructions for you: optionally describe where and how you find this information today, then choose Generate. The workspace writes the instructions, and sets a suggested effort level, from the agent’s name, your value proposition, and the verticals the agent covers. The draft pre-fills the field for you to review and edit before saving. The button stays disabled until the agent has a name and at least one vertical is selected for it.
- Set Effort and Speed (covered below).
- For Account Qualification, also pick a Response type that controls how the answer is captured, for example text, a number, a yes/no answer, a single choice (Select), several choices (Multi-Select), a numeric range, or regions. When you choose a choice-based type you enter the possible answers; for a number or range you can attach an optional unit; for several choices you set the matching logic.
- For Account Qualification and Account Research, Will be used in lets you choose where the agent’s output is surfaced: Business model description, Account plans, Signals, or Competition landscape. Contact Research agents have only the name, instructions, effort, and speed fields.
Account Qualification and Account Research agents step through a short wizard. On the Agent settings step choose Next. The next step lets you pick the Verticals (and Key Accounts) the agent applies to. Account Qualification adds a final step where you record the expected answer per vertical, with a copy control to apply one answer to every selected vertical. Choose Add on the last step to save.
Contact Research agents save in a single step: fill in the settings and choose Add. You assign them to persona cards afterward from the list.
Configure an account plan agent
Section titled “Configure an account plan agent”An account plan agent is the template your team’s plans are generated from. Choose Start from scratch and fill in:
- Name the agent.
- Status (covered below).
- Tags to group and filter plans. You can type a new tag to create it.
- Instructions, written in the rich-text editor. This is the structure and guidance the generated plan follows.
Choose Create to save.
Configure a play agent
Section titled “Configure a play agent”A play agent drafts outbound messaging. Choose Start from scratch to open a blank create form, or Create with AI to have the workspace draft it for you. Either way you land on the full play editor, where you refine the play and generate previews.
With Create with AI you provide:
- A message type to generate for.
- A Play name.
- The Research and Qualifications agents to use for play, whose findings the message should draw on.
- Optional details you want reflected in the play.
Choose Generate and the workspace writes the play, then opens it in the full editor for review.
In the play editor you control:
- Play name and Status.
- Tags (type to create a new one).
- Persona Mapping, where you can turn on Auto-include all to cover every persona now and any added later, or pick specific Persona types and Expertise.
- Generate with AI (available once a play exists), where you set the message type, the research agents to draw on, and any extra details, then choose Re-Generate to rewrite the instructions.
- Play Content, covered next.
- Show advanced settings, where you scope the play to Ecosystems and verticals (or auto-include all) and add Conditional rules that check a condition before the play runs.
When you first create the play, choose Create to save it. After that, the play opens in the full editor where you choose Save to keep further changes.
Single message vs. a multi-step sequence
Section titled “Single message vs. a multi-step sequence”In Play Content you decide whether the play is one message or a sequence:
- Add a Subject line (optional).
- Turn on Use this play as Sequence play to build several steps instead of one message.
- With the sequence on, each step is labeled Step 1, Step 2, and so on, with its own Instructions. Use Add step to add another, the up and down arrows to reorder, and the trash icon to remove one.
- With the sequence off, you write a single block of Instructions.
Set effort and speed
Section titled “Set effort and speed”Account Qualification, Account Research, and Contact Research agents include effort and speed controls in the create form. See Effort and speed for guidance on the tradeoff.
- Effort is Low, Medium, or High. Low (“0.5 credit”) follows your steps exactly and is best when your instructions cover the task. Medium (“1 credit”) follows your steps and expands them with extra reasoning when needed. High (“1.5 credits”) handles complex, ambiguous tasks that need deep reasoning and judgment.
- Speed is Standard (“1x”) or Fast (“2x”, which doubles the credit cost).
The form shows the resulting Cost per run in credits as you change the settings. See Credits for how runs are billed.
Choose a status (plays and plans)
Section titled “Choose a status (plays and plans)”Account plan and play agents carry a Status: Draft, Paused, Ongoing, or Archived. New ones start as Draft. Set it to Ongoing when you want the agent in active use. (To Review is a system status you cannot pick yourself.) You can change status on several agents at once from the list using Change status.
Preview and compare (plans and plays)
Section titled “Preview and compare (plans and plays)”For account plan and play agents you can test the agent on real records before relying on it. Open the agent with the edit icon, then turn on Show previews.
- Save your changes first, then choose Generate new preview.
- For an account plan agent, pick the accounts to generate a preview plan for. For a play agent, pick the contacts (the picker shows IBP qualified contacts from ICP accounts, narrowed by any positive signals the play’s research agents found).
- Choose Generate. Previews appear in the Historical Previews list and refresh as they finish.
- Select two or more finished previews and choose Compare to view their results side by side.
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”A new agent appears in its list right away. Research and qualification agents run when you trigger them against accounts or contacts, or as part of a workflow; see Run a Qualification agent and Run a Research agent. Account plan agents generate plans on the accounts you choose; see Generate account plans. Play agents draft messaging for the contacts you target; see Generate plays.
Previews you generate from a plan or play agent collect in the Historical Previews list and move through Queued, In progress, then Completed (or Crashed if something fails). They typically finish within a few minutes. Open a finished preview to read the result, and use Compare to weigh versions before promoting the agent to Ongoing.
